Card Making Ideas

Picasa is a free download from Google. I recommend using it for card making because you can edit, organise and check print quality of all your images (e.g. clip art, web images, photos and digital supplies etc) as well as design some types of cards to print off directly. I have made some short videos about using Picasa for making greeting cards.

Valentine - Contemporary Blue or Traditional Red?

This valentine hearts background paper was a freebie from Scrapgirls.com (they change them regularly so check them out!)

It is a good example of a freebie that you might want to change the colour of, since blue isn't the traditional valentine colour...

To change the colour of ANY digital paper, just open up the image in Picasa and click the Effects tab from the left handside...then choose 'Tint'. Play around with how much of the original colour you want to keep, then drag the slider to change the colour of the paper until you are happy with it.

Hidden Feature in Picasa 2

The new Picasa Blog alerted me to a hidden feature - apparently called an Easter Egg (hidden!)

If you edit a picture in Picasa and then go to the 'Effects' tab, hold down Ctrl while you select Graduated Tint...and you will see 'Radial Tint'...oooh!

I've found that this is great for images that have a source of 'light' in them, like the picture above - I tinted the picture with quite a dark blue but positioned the radial cursor over the lantern and then increased the 'feather' effect so that it looks as if the light is being thrown onto the snow.

The second picture was also sharpened to create more of a paper texture to the pic, but that was before I started playing with this new feature!

Picasa is free with the Google Pack download.
